The Wyndham Learning Festival 2017 Event
Excitement is building for the second Wyndham Learning Festival following the success of the inaugural festival in 2016. The Wyndham Learning Festival is a community wide event showcasing and celebrating lifelong learning throughout the city of Wyndham. With over 135 events from 1 to 8 September, the Festival will provide learning activities for all life stages; early years, school years, young adults, adults and, seniors.
Brought to Wyndham by the Wyndham Community & Education Centre supported by Wyndham City Council, the Wyndham Learning Festival 2017 will bring together education and training providers, schools, business, government and the community to celebrate learning through an assortment of activities. From Keeping Backyard Chooks or a Digital Photography Bus Tour, to Bee-keeping, cooking paella, and Maltese sweet making, the 2017 Learning Festival has something for everyone! Popular events from last year’s festival such as Rhyme Time in the Zoo and Party in the Precinct will also happen again this year.
To open the 2017 festival, there will be a Pop-Up School in Station Place, Werribee on 1 September. The Pop-up School aims to showcase the rich knowledge of local residents through a series of learning activities representing history, culture, craft, music and stories.
Wyndham Community & Education Centre’s CEO Ms Jennie Barrera said, “The Wyndham Learning Festival plays a significant role in bringing people together with a focus on lifelong learning across the municipality. As one of the fastest growing cities in Australia, our vision is to create a socially inclusive community that enjoys high levels of learning and employment.”
“A strong learning community is a more resilient community that can adapt to change, learn new skills and take advantage of opportunities,” stated Ms Barrera.
This year’s event will be launched on 18 August, bringing together sponsors and event holders. Mayor, Cr Henry Barlow will formally launch the 2017 Wyndham Learning Festival supported by Deputy Mayor, Cr Kim McAliney, Learning City Portfolio holder, Cr Josh Gilligan and Cr Peter Maynard.
